The great uncertainty at the end of 2025 – is there an answer from a Christian perspective? A conversation with Franz-Xaver Hiestand SJ, Director of the Catholic Academic House in Zurich.
Monday, December 1, 2025 – 6:00 PM
The year 2025 is drawing to a close, a year marked by great uncertainty and insecurity. The American president with his erratic and devastating economic policies, the ongoing war in Ukraine, the growing threat to Europe, the indescribable suffering in Gaza and Sudan, etc., have left deep scars of paralysis and hopelessness on many people. We want to talk with Franz-Xaver Hiestand, Jesuit theologian, university chaplain, and expert on the Roman Catholic Church, about our times and whether the Christian churches can offer support and hope. We also want to know from him where the Church stands today and what can be expected from the new Pope Leo XIV in this regard.
These topics Franz-Xaver Hiestand in our conversation with Christoph Vollenweider.
Franz-Xaver Hiestand SJ was born in 1962 in Wald in the Zurich Oberland region and has been a Jesuit since 1988. Since 2010, he has led the aki, the Catholic university chaplaincy, in Zurich. He also leads and accompanies various forms of retreats, including retreats with film, and occasionally works as a film critic.
We look forward to your visit!
